Hi list,

I have been away for some time, but have been reading y'all's mail with some
interest.

Gene, Joe, having responded to both of you privately I would like to add a
comment for both of you and perhaps you will have come to this conclusion
yourselves...that is, you can probably prosper better doing business
together than not. I've heard a lot of folks speak well of you both. So
many folks can't be wrong about you both!

That little virus kicked my computer's ass and I think I am finally squared
away. I know I don't want another one. Did lose a TON of email addresses
though. If you think you need to be on my email address book, please drop
me a line. Fellow Scouties....that includes you too!

We have a new baby in the family, Christian Beau Smith, born 11/20/00, and
his present address is in the neonatal intensive care unit at the hospital.
After birth he was having difficulties breathing which was dealt with by
supplementing his oxygen intake. The problem came to a head with a
collapsed lung and a mad scamble to put a tube in his chest cavity to
releave some pressure and he was intubated to put some positive pressure
inside his lungs to facilitate reinflation of the lung. Luckily, the
earlier difficulties left us in a position to monitor his blood gasses so
they knew something was amiss as soon as the lung collapsed. A little more
than 24 hours later he's off most of the machines and tubes but has a "hood"
which permits him to breath normally though he is taking in an enriched
oxygen environment of 30 percent O2. (Normal atmosphere is 21 percent.)
I'm nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof. Never a dull moment around the
Smith household. I privately told the little tike that life was not all
roses and even though we were willing to help, he was gonna have to get his
shit together, pull himself up by the boot straps and get with the program.
(I think he heard me.) Meanwhile it's back and forth to the hospital.....a
LOT! The wife is doing great for someone who has had a C-section. I have a
great deal to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!

The weather still has been uncooperative so the Scout just sits and sits
there under the tent. I have been buying parts however, so that counts
towards the completion of the project.

Came home with an M105A2 1.5 ton trailer just cause the damn thing was
there....and I was there....and the guy who had it wanted to sell it. You
know the drill....MV enthusiast goes out for a gallon of milk and a dozen
eggs and comes home with a... (fill in the blank)! I will tell the whole
story later. Brought it home to sell it and make a few bucks for the Scout
project. If any one of you wants it please inquire off list....I am in the
San Antonio Texas area. I honestly don't know its market value but I've a
feeling what I would accept for it. If you are not in the area but want it
and buy it I will keep it here a reasonable time until you are ready to come
get it. Nuff said.

Happy Holidays,
TJ
