Well You could say I got it (the OD disease) with a touch
of Grey and its all Steve Keith (AKA DR Deuce) fault...
I was this happy go lucky hot shot Navy bum, bumming rides and
actually flying WW II warbirds for a couple of outfits until
my untimely crash and burn broken leg / ankle accident (long story)
Since my flying was over for a while and I can't afford a huge
dollar warbird of my own I began to listen to Steve Keith..
So Steve tells me to get involved with the HMV stuff. So to try it
I used to borrow a neighbors Navy CJ jeep for some parades and
airshows. After getting caught in a rain storm with no roof on a
return trip I got the brainstorm of going with a staff car.. I
found one and haunted the now ex owner for 4 years in order to
save it from sitting under a tree exposed to the harsh New England
weather conditions..
6 months latter and road worthy I went to the Weare Merrimack Valley
Mil Veh club rally.. Went for a couple trail rides in Steves 151..
next thing you know I own an 52 M38A1.. Then last summer I really
let it get the better of me and bought a 41 Chevy C100 / model 325
fire engine (really wanted the QMC 1100 crash truck but thats even
a longer story)..
So ya if you count the haze grey 41 Chevy Navy staff .. ya I got
it !!!! Fortunately I've managed to acquire all this stuff very
cheep and performed 99 % of the grunt fixin' it work myself..
thats about the only way I can afford to do this ..
And then of course a MB or GPW WW II flat fender keeps nagging
at my brain .. And I'de still love a crash truck ..Right John ..
It IS a sickness .. but one you can (as long as your SO has a sense
of humor or likes OD too) live with and enjoy..
Hey Steve... Thanks...;-)
