[MV] M543A2 temperature gauge question

My M543A2 temperature gauge appears to have been installed some time ago. I can't swear that it is original but it does match the other gauges in look and condition. In other words, it does not look as though it was replaced, although I suppose it could have been many years back. In any case, the temperature range on the gauge reads from 160 degrees to 320 degrees. All my other trucks (M35A2's and M813A1) have a gauge that ranges from 120 to 240. Is the former gauge correct? Does anyone know why this gauge would have been used?
