List,
I just got off the phone after speaking to MVPA
leader Lee Holland. Lee called me in reference
to my earlier post to the List:

Dave,
The one thing that bothers me on the year 2001 convention is
all of the regulations and extra fees. No vehicular movement
during the swap meet hours means I can't take my partially
paralyzed wife around on our Mule like we do at Aberdeen
and Tobyhanna. I guess I could fight the $25. fee for use of
facilities if I explain we have everything in our motor home. I
guess I could get permission to breakdown my vending area
and leave before the Saturday permitted time. We rarely stay
through Saturday; Marilyn usually has enough by Friday eve
and we come home. I doubt we'll attend.
Try to keep the rules and regulations at a minimum. Too many
rules and regulations is what eventually helped ruin the truck
and van-ins we used to go to.

Lee's explanations:
Lee was very informative explaining the rules and regulations.
Vehicle movement is restricted to handicap scooters, golf
carts, Mules and the like. They don't want M37's types and
large trucks cruising around the vending area, due to the
liabilities involved.
The $25. fee for facility upkeep was created due to having
so many port-a-pots, showers and large restrooms. A
janitorial service has been contracted for the upkeep and
will be costly.
As to leaving early, that's not a problem for us if I let
the field staff know so they can direct us to the closest
gate.
The convention area is something like fifteen acres of flat
surface. Several hock fields are located there, so you can
be sure we'll have nice terrain without ruts and so forth.
Lee said all of the vending spots are good ones!
Many, many attractions will be there, including reenacting
units representing various war periods. A couple of field
hospitals will be set up and great entertainment is promised
for the banquet, an Abbott and Costello act, plus more.
Maps to aid convoys will be sent to MVPA affiliate clubs.
Lee really made this convention sound like it's going to be
a super special one and they anticipate a very large attendance.
I'm convinced that Mar and I will attend and enjoy it.
My concern was that hosting organizations would get rules
and regulation happy and create and enforce needless
stuff. I hope my previously stated remarks did not cause
a stir wherein some people/vendors shied away from
attending.
My thanks to Lee for the call and lengthily explanation.
