Hi all. Just got back from New Year to download 975 messages! Most of them
about jerrycans!

Not quite corrrect about the T55 in Goldeneye, Nige. At the outset, the
movie company rang to ask how to make it go faster 'for some really exciting
shots'. They thought that cornering at around 60MPH sounded about right.
I explained that if you can get a 50 ton tank on metal tracks up to 60MPH
and then try to corner it in a town square, you will get some very exciting
shots because it will go absolutely straight on ....and on.....and on.
Better to check the wording on the third party insurance certificate before
rolling the camers (or the tank). At that speed, a tank running on a
surfaced road on steel tracks will go exactly where it wants to go and not
where you tell it to. So they asked for T55 rubber track and I explained
that the Russians rarely if ever fitted rubber track and not to the T55. In
the event, we shipped them a set of new Chieftain rubber track and they
modified the running gear to take it. I doubt they sprayed much oil about
though.

Did you notice that in the same chase scene, Pierce Brosnan sat on a pile of
cushions with his head stuck out of the open drivers hatch with a grim
heroic smile on his face, his hair gently wafting in the breeze, while the
tank drove through a brick wall in a hail of bullets. Good for poser points
but more practical to have the tank buttoned down and drive on the scopes.

Cheers. Mike S. UK
