In the beginning when clutch packs and bands are new they are all
created dry. Before a kit is installed (this goes for a Turbo 350, 400,
C-4, C-6, Cat powershift, New Holland Dual power anything with wear
plates that operate in fluid.) they are saturated with the proper or
improper fluid that shall be installed in the transmission.
Some of these fluids are compatible with others and allow a change
and some are not for example if'n you put Mercon Dextron in an old Ford
transmission the requires type F you will not be satisfied with the
results. So if possible find out what the bands were saturated with.
Also don't use any silicone, I have seen several $10,000 Caterpillar
Powershift transmissions ruined due to a piece of this miracle sealer
getting in the wrong valve or servo.
