I have seen this also, i think it is both the moister and sometimes a
reaction with the paint over long periods of time.
Another thing to watch for on a good clear paint job is dust, I have seen
small deep rubs/scratches from not taking the time to remove a sand grain.

I would suggest that magnetic signs such as these not be left on vehicle for
extended time - particularly if left outside. I have seen several instances
where the paint seems to be pulled off. I think is because moisture is
trapped behind sign. Saw it happen on factory paint on new trucks. Also I
had one on my tool box and when I pulled it off left serious rusty place
exact size and shape of sign. The work good if you just remember to pull
them off when not in use. It was on box for about 3 months, approx. 7
inches by 4 inches.
