Subject: [MV] Matching Fan Belts
Here's my 2 cents.
The need to have a matched set of 2 or more of the same fan belts has to do
with the inner diameter. The closer to the same diameter means that when
properly installed each belt does its share of the work.
If one belt is even just a touch slightly larger, the smaller one will do
more of
the work when spinning round and round, the larger one just goes along for
the ride.
When you install your fan belts, line up whatever name or numbers like in
the
example below:
Belt # 1-- Dayco12345 Dayco12345 Dayco12345
Belt # 2-- Dayco12345 Dayco12345 Dayco12345
Belt # 3-- Dayco12345 Dayco12345 Dayco12345
Now go for a short drive to wear them in. If all 3 belts are from a matched
set,
they will look the same as above. If they look like this below, they are not
from
a matched set.
Belt # 1-- Dayco12345 Dayco12345 Dayco12345
Belt # 2-- Dayco12345 Dayco12345 Dayco12345
Belt # 3-- Dayco12345 Dayco12345 Dayco12345
As you can see ( I hope ) belt # 2 has slipped. It was not cut from the same
spot on the construction " tube ". Belt # 2 has a slightly larger inner
diameter
than #'s 1 and 3. Numbers 1 and 3 are doing all the work.
Here's another example: Slice a loaf of bread into 9 sections.
123456789. Slices 123 are a matched set. Slices 234 are matching. 345 are
matching.
Not 134 or 689 or 159. All are from the same loaf. Not all are from the same
cut points.
If your parts guy says that his are all matching he will have no trouble at
all in showing
you where and how they all line up at every spot on the belts.
I hope that this helps you out. I'm going to make myself a sandwich. [;-0)
