Are you sure the 9999 does not mean it has not be officially classified with
the Army? My experience shows that 9999 indicates its a small purchase by the
Army or a custom unit. >>
I don't know about that, I just looked up the NSN that was posted in my
Supply Catalog, and there it is, big as life.
"FSN 2330-472-9999 SEMITRAILER, VAN, 6 ton, Army (19207) 8736383, Model
M447C; Body, steel, wood, and aluminum, insulated, outside dim. 202-1/2 in.
lg, 90-1/2 in. w, 74-1/2 in. h, o/a dim. 324 in. lg, 96 in. w, 133 in. h, 2
level platform, straight front, w/windows, 3 each side, 2 in rear, 2 rear
doors, interior electric outlets, 24 v, 110 v, 220 v, ventilating openings.
Fifth wheel upper plate w/kingpin, 18 in. from center to front end
Trunnion type axle
Wheel arrangement, Style No. 14, RDG 188
Air-hydraulic type service brakes
w/retractable support, manually operated, auxiliary support legs or jacks
w/folding sides, two 60,000 BTU heaters, one 24,000 BTU air conditioner,
vinyl nylon curtains, sealed system for underwater fording 40 in."
For whatever its worth, the same Supply Catalog (SC 2300 IL, July 1969) also
lists a M447 (Note no C), FSN 2330-542-5709, which seems to differ in the
following respects:
Wheel arrangement Style 15 (as opposed to 14 above)
No reference to any air conditioning
Only electric outlets listed are 12 and 24 volt
single 60,000 BTU heater
Are we having fun yet?
David
