let me relate to you experience with undercoating -- for several years I
operated a retail fertilizer business. It is very corrosive -- friend of
mine coated back of truck cab next to spreader bed with undercoating, the
steel rusted away from under the undercoat -- not in somehow and ate metal
away -- the part that did not have undercoat on it did not rust at all.

I think same thing would happen with battery box. my suggestion put lots of
baking soda in bottom it will neutralize any spilled acid. I would just
paint in normal manner -- by the way I have seen folks put rubber pads in
bottom --- bad idea -- holds water
