found today a GPW.
she seems in a pretty good shape (usual problems on the floors).
1942 script ford.
data plate still on place, I could read "82922", DoD 6-4-42, but they don't
match. perhaps, first digit is "3" instead...
number on frame..still too difficult to read.
engine has Willys head, was impossible to read casting date, nor number on
the head.
two questions (Jim Gilmore ??):
- I remember some postings (1, 2 years ago) about GPW s/n vs Usa
numbers...is it possible to have the "almost" correct USA number from the
s/n ? and also plant/date of origin ?
- I think that some GPW in contract W-398-QM-11424 (is it correct...not
read on data plate!) could have Willys block...is it "GPW" numbered ??
I'm thinking about buying it...and trying to restore.
I'm also aware that perhaps is the most difficult Ford to do...
tks for help,
maurizio
