First off, thanks to everybody who answered
previously. This is turning out to be exactly
the hobby that I was hoping. I had to use
comet to abrade the first layer of grease (skin)
off before eating this evening. Man I love this
truck!
I took what everybody said and checked
85% of the fuel delivery system today. I pulled the intake
out of the fuel tank (no filter in the tank on this truck).
Replaced that gasket while back there. (Rubberized cork ok for this?)
Checked/cleaned filter on firewall. Did sanity check
on in-line filter to ensure proper direction of flow. Would
an in-line filter create too much resistance for the fuel
pump?
Traced lines over to the fuel pump. Made sure
that the lines between filters were not kinked. Have not
replaced the rubber lines at the fuel pump yet
(it's getting too dark outside to continue at this point).
Checked the fuel pump heat shield. It's doing ok.
I thoroughly cleaned the bell jar on the fuel pump. (I didn't realize
that was clear glass until today!)
I'm not 100% positive yet, but it seems to me that the
pump isn't sucking any fuel. Do I have to prime the lines?
Also, the fuel pump is secure by two 3" or 4" bolts. Is
this normal? How much should I expect to pay for a new
fuel pump? Does NAPA carry such a thing?
Thanks again,
John
