M37 mystery hole

I was hoping that someone could answer this question about my M37. I'm new
to MV's. Just in front of the driver's door, is a hole about 4" in
diameter. Is this for a heater that the truck once had and if so, can those
be replaced or is there a plate to cover it with? I hate having to use duct
tape to cover it.
