Hi,
Your message did not come in with this particular virus as an attachment. That
does not necessarily mean you do not
have this virus, or some other. Apparently, it does not fully infect some
machines, if they are using Netscape or
some other programs, rather than Outlook for example. There are ways to check
if you read some of the earlier posts
to this list. One is to search for the virus files. Another is to install and do
a scan with up-to-date virus
detection software.
The part of this problem which has gotten almost no mention is that the virus
apparently also contains a Trojan
payload, which will allow someone to get into your system remotely, in addition
to the email sending component.
You should consider for your own protection if you leave your computer connected
to the network 24/7 (cable modems,
ISDN, and DSL). Idle hands are the devil's playground. That practice, combined
with the possibility of a back door
into your system from the Trojan component, could leave you wide open for other
mischief or someone exploring your
system at their leisure.
Maybe we have all learned a useful lesson.
