Brushing a light coat of vinegar on galvanized steel, & or aluminum
before painting will also insure that the paint sticks. It leaves behind
a microscopic pitting that gives the new coat of paint something to hang
on to.

That works OK with a stick welder, but no good with a Mig or Tig. It's
best ALWAYS to wear a mask, even a heepie cheepie disposable paper
one(the only thing we had in the mid-70's Portsmouth Navy Shipyard) it'll
keep you from coughing up quite so much gunk.
