Good one! In Canada:
Montreal Locomotive Works built Valentine, Ram and Grizzly tanks (including
the Skink), along with Sexton 25 pdr SPs...
Sorel (now the boot company) built 25 pounder gun-howitzers...
John Inglis built household appliances before the war and since... in the war
years, they are noted for the finest quality Bren LMGs, Boys antitank rifles
and unique versions of the famous Browning Hi-Power. Some Inglis Hi-Powers
are STILL in service in the Canadian Army...
Ford Canada and General Motors Canada collaborated for the first time in
history to create the Canadian Military Pattern [CMP] truck, in record time.
Both companies also produced unique armoured vehicles also used in every
theatre of the war, and Bombardier (yes, the Ski-do people) designed and
manufactured military snowmobiles...
Zephyr Loom & Textile, a small textile wholesaler, produced millions of sets
of Pattern 37 web gear during the war...
Numerous clothing companies produced battledress uniforms in the millions, of
far finer quality than those manufactured in Britain...
Small boat builders in Collingwood, Ontario, on the south shore of Georgian
Bay (off Lake Huron) built Corvettes, which would eventually be the tenacious
guardians of the North Atlantic sea lanes...
Fledgling subsidiary aero companies Avro and DeHavilland built Lancasters,
Mosquitos and Hurricanes...
The list goes on. Once in a while, you get to meet someone who actually
worked on these production lines, and it's wonderful to get THEIR side of
this unique history!
Colin, YOU take it from here... :-)
