But then ,the 37mm was a left-over from the preceeding war; IIRC, it was the 
main armament of the Renault FT17 AFV; OTOH, its was also fitted to the M3 
Stuart....
Then there is the fact that the 2 pounder was fired from a 40mm calibre weapon :-)
