'39 Ford Panel / 115th QM Regt Update

Mr. Mitch Yockelson of the Modern Military
Records Branch of NARA has agreed to do a little research on my poor old
panel. He didn't see the posibilities until I told him about the
"sightings" of other such vehicles in Arkansas
and New Mexico.
A central point of origin such as the National Guard Bureau might
explain why other identical trucks may exist.
Another central point may be the QM themselves. However, those
records are buried within 4 tractor-trailers of records at MVPA
Headquarters. Mr. Lee Holland was nice enough to call me and tell what
to expect.
This research is winding down. I'm
beginning to run out of sources. After a flurry of
communication with CSM Dan Sebby of the CA
ANG, I can't get him to return my emails again.
Without his and his superior's help, I won't get into the Camp San Luis
Obispo "museum".
A small breakthrough, perhaps, is the identification of a huge 2' tall
"7" on both rear doors. These 7s were placed way out at the outer edges
of the exterior door panels so that
you could see the "7" while the truck was towing something.
In California National Guard parlance, "7" means 7th California. The
115th QM Regt. was
not the 7th. The 115th QM Regt was disbanded in 1942, however. Until
now I had
no clue as to what units had it later on. The 7th
corresponds to the either the 160th Infantry Regiment or the 223rd.
Mainly Southern California area units.
  Thank You, Don Kenyon
