The nasty stuff the leaked out of your coil could be PCB's and when heated
turns into dioxins. This is used on most oil cooled coils.Handle accordingly.
The coil will blow up when the ignition is left on and the points are closed
thereby completing the circuit and storing all the power in the coil until
eventually it can't handle anymore and heats up and blows. This doesn't take
long and can happen anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes. It can cause serious injury
if you are to close when it blows.Cheaper or older coils can just expand and
ooze but most explode.
I saw a coil blow on a 24 volt lightweight and it dented the hood and coated
everything with the oil.Big mess to clean up.
