If you think forgetting the 6 June D-day marker is bad,
most everyone has now forgotten that June 4 1942 was the
major marker for the Pacific war..
The battle of Midway occurred on that date which turned
the balance of power in the Pacific. From that battle
onward the Japanese were stopped from any further invasion
progress and were on the defensive .. We lost a lot of good
sailors and Naval airmen not to minimize the loss of the carrier
Yorktown.. But the Japanese lost 4 carriers and a large
percentage of their most experienced aircrews ..
I was again privileged to have myself and my 41 Staff car be
a walking history part to the Battle of Midway program at the
Naval War College in Newport RI this last weekend.. I was
fortunate enough to have dinner at the same table with 2 of
the participants of the battle..and a Marine that survived 8
invasions ..
So remember that the first weekend in June has a dual memory
