Dear Listers......
I have TM11-296 "Radio Set AN/PRC-6" dated 15th.Sept 1955 in front of me.
On page 1, it says "This manual supercedes TM11-296 dated 16th Oct 1951...."
So it looks like the PRC-6 came into use then.
