WET WEATHER DRIVING

There was an interesting clip on TV this morning from
the Houston flooding, before cable crapped out.

Texas National Guard was helping some stranded folks
out of a flooded neighborhood with 2 1/2 ton. The
tarped bed was loaded with kids, women, dog, etc. The
truck was running in probably bottom of the bed high
water along a paved road when the driver, unfamiliar
with the area, drove into a ditch.

Local TV camera crew happened to be in a boat nearby
and caught a shot of the driver, still in the cab,
engine chugging away with water up to the top of the
steering wheel. TV boat rescued the frantic civilians
now swimming in the tarped bed.

Last shot they had of the truck looked like the driver
finally found his footing and managed to drive it out,
at least it showed the truck nose up apparently
pulling out.

Most tragic event occured in downtown Houston late
Friday when a lady took the elevator in her office
building to the basement parking garage to resuce her
car from flooding. Power failed in the elevator at
basement level and she was drowned in the elevator.
