While you can't stop a determined thief, you can stop the casual switch
flipper from starting your vehicle.
As a display safety for your M35A2 series vehicle, pull the plug out of
the back of your start switch and rotate it 90 degrees and push it back in.
To the uninitiated it looks kosher, and if on display, I'd hope you'd be
paying enough attention that you would notice someone upside down under your
dash.
Another alternative would be to install another Flame heater switch
under the dash (or use the existing one since you really don't want someone
dicking with it and how often do you use it?) and wire the Starter Push
button in series with it. This would require holding the FH toggle while
pushing the starter button to crank. Just remember it applies to YOUR
vehicle and requires thought before you start your buddies deuce!!!!!
When parked (storage) pull the dogbone off the battery and stick it up
under the framerails somewhere and chain and lock the steering wheel and
leave in NEUTRAL, both transmission and transfer and HIGH/LOW range lever.
This may help stop bump starts, but not a determined thief.
If you're serious (or think you wanna be) run a BIG, Heavy chain through
both sets of duals on one side with little or no slack, and an anti theft
padlock. Paint the chain Fluorescent Orange or Green so tim the thief will
notice ( and Homer the normal driver does too. But then again, we all do
complete pre trip inspections every time, so would notice a honking chain
while checking the tire pressures, RIGHT?). A big, long heavy chain should
be on your truck anyways, along with appropriate grade 8 bolts, washers and
nuts, since it can be used to hold on broken things like springs and axles
that go south at inconvenient times.
Anyone else got quick, easy security ideas out there?
