Detective work isn't about being smart, it's about perseverance!
After nearly two-and-a-half years of wondering
(one year wasted bothering utility company retirees), I can finally say
WHO had my truck
WHEN: All units N.G. 40th Div CA
1) 115th Quartermaster Regiment (most likely
Co.A) Most likely converted to "rolling toolbox"
themselves. Top-of-the-line 1.5 ton panel with
95hp (biggest avail) V-8. 115th QM disbanded in March of '42.
2) 223d (Infantry?) had the thing until AFTER
the Korean Era. 1955? JUST FOUND 223D
ON HOOD THIS EVENING!
3) State Of California used it for some unknown reason (California
Toll Bridge Authority?)
4) Finally "Joe's" (I made that up) appliance
repair or whatever. I found wheels from an old
Maytag Washer and a house heating-unit t-stat.
Hooray!
These facts explain:
Todd Shipyards (San Pedro, LA Harbor) job
ticket. The 115th or 223d was sent to guard the
Navy Yards after Pearl Harbor.
Giant 7s on rear doors. 7 is the insignia (or
major part thereof) of the 223d. Stands for
7th California.
I'm the man!
