Every year on the Severn Valley Railway (Kidderminster to Bridnorth 15
miles), where they run preserved Steam engines and all the stations are kept
as they were years ago, they hold a War Weekend (WW2)
All the stations along the track are blacked out, names obscured, doors
sandbagged etc. The public turn up in droves, many in 40's clothes. Old
fashioned canteen, food etc. Nurses, canteen ladies, spiv's, Winston
Churchill lookalike etc.
Loads of MV's at the various stations (Arley is the station for US vehicles
normally)
Steam train rides chugging all day. Re-enactments going on all the time
along the line (British, US, German 'forces' + Home Guard with broom handles
etc .)
Me and mates usually travel in a convoy of MB's between stations in the
beautiful Shropshire countryside. Great to arrive in a cloud of dust at a
station while other things are going on.
This year the event is on two weekends - very popular. This weekend coming
and the one after.
Bring ear muffs for the machine gun noise !
