Just one of my experiences...
Make sure when the manifold is installed that you make sure it is perpendicular
to the head and that it is seated down evenly and properly (it may look seated at
the top of the manifold but it may not underneath). When I got mine running after
purchasing it, it wouldn't run right (exhaust leaks at head, cylinder misses). I
took off the manifold & head assy as I had leaky valves. I found burned valves
and just figured the gaskets had deteriorated allowing air leaks causing the
burned valves.. I rebuilt the head and installed it only to find the same
problems to be back again (intake leaks/exhaust leaks wouldn't idle properly). I
had to use a mirror and look from the underside and found the rings were causing
the manifold to not install properly. . I found that you have to be careful about
how the manifold is placed, so be careful when installing it. I think the
previous owner did the same thing as I did, but didn't notice it. Just my
experience with my CCKW. After I got the manifold installed properly it ran
really great and continues to do so today! If I remember correctly I installed
the rings into the head first, after trying to install the manifold with the
rings in it didn't want to work all that well.
