W#s on Rear Doors of Panel?

In an old military yearbook I bought off eBay,
it clearly shows W#s on the tailgates of vehicles--after "USA".
Can anyone tell me if my panel should have
its W number on the rear doors?
Trying to nail down W number in order to
facilitate research...all I have so far is ...524...
