Howdy from Texas,
We had 20 motorized MV's at the Burleson, Texas Parade just south of
Fort Worth.
A great small town parade with all the things you love about small town
parades...
flying candy, horses and of course historical green jeeps and
trucks. Parade started
about 0915, I picked up my 4 and 2 year old and their 4 year old cousin to
wave at
everyone. About 10 mins into the ride they were looking for a modern
vehicle with
A/C to ride in. Their little waving hands kept sinking as the heat got to
them. The
Arrowhead chapter MVPA brought together several MB's and GPW's, a halftrack, a
Cletrac, 2 Dodge weapons carriers and an ambulance, one towing a cannon,
and 2 duces.
2 motorcycles chased each other around the slow moving trucks. All the
vehicles survived
the parade but the Cletrac did run out of L.P., the 20 Gal. backup got him
going again.
We also had two historical bicycles. The L.P. machine guns on the
halftrack and the
weapons carrier got the crowds attention. Amazingly enough everybody
smiled and
waved. I think Texans are used to seeing guns or something.
We won 1st place for Heritage entry.
Afterward, Gary and Linda Haas, who probably supplied a third of
the vehicles, invited
us to their home for a Texas style cookout. Charles Varner spoke about
next years MVPA
national meeting here in North Texas and how he didn't want it to interfere
with other big
shows like Beltring. I think I'm the only one not going to Ft.
Lee. Hopefully the Arrowhead
Chapter web site will be up soon with photos! If anyone is interested I'm
getting my photos
developed today hopefully and can scan and send.
That night I took the family to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra concert
with fireworks.
There is nothing like watching the fireworks exploding with a live
orchestra playing patriotic
music! I hope everyone had as wonderful a celebration of America's 225th
birthday as we
did!
