Speaking of photo's of Ft. Lee, if anyone had a few of my TOW missile Jeep,
I'd appreciate dropping me a copy. Seems the camera issue is one of those
things we failed to achieve again. Just like the gentleman that approached
me with "live" TOW rounds. I gave him MY flyer, but failed to capture HIS
info so I could follow-up. Would love a display missile after we "fix" the
solid rocket propellant and high pressure cylinder problems safely.....
Ft. Lee was very enjoyable, the rain Wed/ sprinkles Thurs were actually
nicer than the dry grass pollen of Fri/Sat. which really ate my skin up out
there. Failed to meet Joe Young, maybe in the future. Met SO many people,
but needed to have a sign announcing the Mil Veh List. (Lurker...)
One thing that amazed me, (depressed me) is the amount of people that surge
around you while your unloading, trying desperately to buy stuff that you
haven't marked, etc. (sort of catching you off guard...) Seems they want to
scarf up everything you have, to take it to their table, mark it up and sell
it at often two to five times what you were asking. (and believe me, I'm
happy NOT to have to haul the stuff back home.....)
I know, it's "business", but again, call me naive, but I'm still one of
those guys that tries to break even, not making excessive profit from what
is to me the " hobby" not a mandatory income source.
Had a great time meeting with DUKW owners (even went back 20 miles the next
night to pay the two beer tab I had walked out on after we had moved the
meeting out of the bars, OOPS!, so I doubled the fee and tip to make
amen's...)
Met up with Richard Grace, Drafted into judging 1/4 Ton WWII Jeeps by Lou
Moore. (Thanks Lou) Learned a lot, and also saw a LARGE discrepancy in
"standards" that people try to bring their vehicles in for judging. (An
example, the "Restored Class" shouldn't have a SAS display jeep in the same
competition, as they are trying for two different degree's of competition.
We changed the categories, as it only made sense to honor the efforts of
those involved. Have yet to see the winners list)
Would point out, that accessories such as radio brackets, machinegun
pedestals, etc. should not have "F" head bolts unless the possibility of a
LATE war motorpool mod, using bolts out of a takeoff parts pin type thing.
(This was an overkill on the "F" script markings)
My simple advice as a "New" Judge. Pick a year, clean the vehicle up for
that year, and stick to that years parts ONLY! Or do like I did, enjoy the
vehicle and don't enter in that top level category for judging.
By the way, As I see it, Willys have a lip under their running boards (and
composite body Fords) Whereas Fords do not have the lip (repro bodies seem
to have incorporated the lip.
For you M35 fans, if you were there Sat. you saw the M35A2 W/W, hard cab and
three camo pattern, Vinyl Top. This was the one we just bought from
Spunky's motorpool in Williamsburg, Va. Haven't had problems with here
other than a few glitches like an errant turn signal, etc. They really bent
over backward to get her ready for the sale, and delivery for us to drive
her up for the show.
last item, My CJV-35/U (unrestored) is for sale again. Seems the Doctor
from New York that was supposed to link up with me at the Show (promised
since December, I'm TOO damn patient....) Failed to achieve his goal or
even contact me with another excuse. If anyone wants a PROJECT CJV-35/U
(#525 of 100, only about 16-20 still out there, rarest of the jeeps) I'd
love to discuss 3K for it, but will take less. Simply e-mail me if your
interested.
Regards and thanks for coming out to the show.
