Yes, the R-1300 was used in the North American T-28A,
and was essentially 1/2 (a single row) of the two-row
Wright R-2600 14-cylinder engine as used in the B-25
and TBM.
I'm not aware that the R-1300 was ever used in any
form in a production HMV, nor can I recall any other
aircraft that was built with the R-1300 other than the
T-28A. Come to think of it, a helicopter version might
have been used, but I have no information to support
that!
As long as the R-1300 has no life limited parts, the
engine should be able to be overhauled for re-use in
an aircraft. New logs can be created as part of the
overhaul process.
The S2F however used an R-1820, as did the later
versions of the T-28.
