Howdy, Listfolk...
While making a trip to the local electronics supply
house for some odd fuses, I ran across a 1942 GPW at a
used car dealership. The date on the plate is 03/26
1942 and it is a Ford GPW (there were three military
plates that were on the passenger's side dash).
Didn't have long to talk to the owner -- he had to go
pick up a kid from football practice.
He said it had the original flathead 4-cyl. engine and
it runs great. It's been converted to 12v (ick!) and
painted red (wheels too). Clean title and it's
currently registered as a Texas Farm Truck. He said
he wants $3500 for it and he couldn't come down from
that because there's supposedly someone coming to look
at it from Houston tomorrow. If it's the same nutball
that looked at my M38A1 from Houston, no sweat -- he
won't buy it...he wants 100% restored vehicles for
1/10 market value. If the guy doesn't buy it, he says
he can probably get "close to $3000"...
If anyone's interested, e-mail me and I'll give you
the guy's contact info. If someone's interested and
if he doesn't sell it to the guy from Houston, I can
go check it out more carefully and get pictures with
my digital camera...if the price is way out of line,
please don't flame me...I'm just the messenger!! :-)
(It's quite a bit cheaper than I sold my M38A1 for!)
