How do they tote M16's in the CUCV then? Do they just
toss them in the cargo area in back? Maybe on the
floorboard and use them as footrests? :-)

Seriously, I doubt in a vehicle whose primary role is
that of command/control, it would be terribly critical
to have to get at the M16 very rapidly...then again,
you never know. Now in a MUTT, that sounds like bad
design to have to struggle with the rifle getting in
and out of a 151. In the CUCV, they're behind the
driver's seat well out of the way of entry/exit.

Maybe the presumption (in both the MUTT and the CUCV)
is that if you're in a scenario where you'll probably
need to have fast access to the weapon, the other
soldiers riding with you should hang onto your weapon
while you drive (and while they hang onto their
weapons also). Saves having to use the dreaded slow
rifle mounts that way.

1985 M1009 CUCV that saw former USMC service with
rifle mounts that have had obvious use from the paint
scrapes, dings, etc. on them. :-) (Still wondering
why there's only two rifle mounts in an M1009...)
