Dear Ron,
thanks for voting for German vehicles but the DKW Munga is not
a good vehicle because of its two stroke engine.
Have you ever seen the troops vomitting because of the two-stroke
oil fumes of a DKW Munga in front of them in the convoy?
Which motor pool soldier was able to set the three (3!) sets
of contact breaker points in the correct way? Who in the field
was able to mix petrol (gas) and oil in the correct way?
It was very easy to damage the head gasket of the Munga engine
(to come home early during exercises/practicing): Close the
cooling flap and wait until the cooling water boils and the
gasket gets damaged. Stop the vehicle, open the flap again and
call for the workshop truck. When the workshop truck comes,
the engine is cooled down and the gasket still damaged. MUNGA
towed home to the barracks, end of exercise...
A two-stroke-engine is scrap for a off-road-vehicle, because it
has no torque at low revs.
The MUNGA needs a very careful driver and an experienced workshop.
Not what you find in the army...
The Munga with a good four-stroke-engine is a fine vehicle but
the original version not.
You know that the Wehrmacht didn't use vehicles with two stroke
engines. They knew why!
Best regards
Andreas
