There are two types of carbs for the M-151-A2. Using the wrong carb may
also cause these types of problems. The two types are the pre-April 1973
and the post-April 1973 (called the "clean-air" type). The "clean-air" type
is EPA certified and must be used with the "clean-air" engine and fuel
system for proper performance. The "clean-air" M-151-A2's can be
identified by having a registration number prefixed with the letters "NB"
while the pre-"clean-air" vehicles have registration numbers starting with
the prefix "02".
Also, when rebuilding the "clean-air" carb using the rebuild kit
#5703307, you must not use the pump diaphragm assembly (#11630415) or the
power and accelerator jet washer (#T56-32) from the kit. These parts must
be reused from the existing carb.
