You're right of course. No UH-1 ever lifted a PBR. Lift limit on the hook is about 4000 pounds on a GOOD day. There were not that many GOOD flying days in RVN. An M151 is about the heaviest thing a Huey can lift, but not with a full load of fuel and ammo in the Huey. Te whole aircraft, ready to fly, only goes about 5000 pounds itself. It can lift roughly it's own weight, less a few hundred pounds.
It did make for a good scene in the movie, however. I also thought that the PBR hull would not have withstood the drop they pictured. Well, that's Hollywood!
