Janet,
I was across the river in New Jersey watching from the rooftop of my
office building when it happened. I watched the whole thing.
If you were here with me you would have seen lots of "American
Spirit", people helping each other and working together. Much of lower
Manhattan was evac'ed to New Jersey by ferry, and we had a large
triage set up in Liberty State Park.
Those that couldn't walk, we carried. Some just gathered in small
groups and cried. The OEM was turning away volunteers by the dozen,
everyone wanted to help.
Anyone would have been proud of what went on, and is still going on.
The heroism is amazing. And it's not over yet, I talked with the
Engineers for the Port Authority, and they say that #5 WTC is likely
to collapse before morning, luckily it's completely empty now.
It's not that people here on the list don't care, just that some are
"out of touch". Forgive them their distance.
