My Canadian Mutt came with long lug nuts on the rear wheels, with a plate
that stands out from the hub about three inches. The hubs have loops
through them and I was told that you pass a knotted rope through the loop,
then the plate is used to as a spool to wind the rope and get you out. On
the plate is stamped "UN-STUKKER - Pat Pending Canada". Same principle,
different approach.

I've heard that a way to get un-stuck was to bolt a wheel on the outside of
the front wheel (with tire mounted) and then use the rim as a spool for a
makeshift winch.
Pretty, no.
Dangerous, yes.
Sometimes resulting in a bigger mess than getting stuck, absolutely.
