Knowledgible Listers,

I have had one of those scattered brain storms that
has left me indelibly transfixed with the idea of
altering one of my 211's. Now for you purist, I have
3 trucks and one is still original and with the
exception of replacement parts and paint will remain
so. One of the others has been fire dept. adulterated
and as it already needs some major things I have
decided to have some fun. My plan is to replace the
drive train, because it will serve as a replacement
elsewhere, with the 8.2 liter Detroit turbo diesel and
it's 5 speed maunal from my bus that I am scraping.
That is the simple part. The fun part is that I want
to stretch the frame 48 inches and add a second cab
utilizing pieces from my parts truck. In the early
stages it looks to be fairly straightforward to do. I
still have some work figuring out the gearing
diferences and how that will work. But I have gotten
creative with my scanner and manual and generated a
picture of what this creation will look like and it is
pretty sharp. I can e-mail a copy to those who may be
interested.

The gist of this project boils down to a reduction of
driveway occupancy and the ability to go somewhere in
the truck with the whole family. My children are too
small to ride in the back for any distance.

Comments, ideas, tips?

The naming is derived from:
X - non-standardized
M211 -base truck
A1- First major modification
F - Family model
