Hey, Gordon-
I you would care to re-read my initial post, you would see that I said
that they could "cut their chances", not eliminate them. Alabama has one of
the largest National Guard contingents in the country. I have MANY friends
and aquaintances that were call up for both conflicts you mentioned. I am
fully aware of the odds of a Guard unit being called. I think, in most
units, the odds of being called are still less than most regular Army units.
And, the bulk of the FEMA's are regular Army. Most, but by all means, not
all NG units called are support. So, that does put them (theoretically, at
least) more out of harm's way
I didn't mean to belittle the Reserve and NG units. They definitely
have a hugely important role in today's armed forces. Even in the Cold War
era (my time), we served important functions. Like riot duty in the K.C.
riots and sandbagging the dikes on the Mississippi during floods. **** MV
content: You haven't really seen how fast a M-151 will go until you're
trying to out-run the Mississippi after the dike breaks.****
If I stepped on your toes, I apologize, but, my comment stands. I guess
the odds of getting called up depends a lot on which type of unit you are
in.
