>It is the children that are allowed to go careering around the site on
quads and trikes,
Strongly Agree there... but also reckon a few stinger sets could be used on
the exits from the beer tent at around closing time.
A short story from this Year's event...
With friends I was camped in the living history area opposite the arena
bank, next to the exit to civilian camping area... at around 2am one night I
was awoken by the high revving of a Jeep engine... upon emerging from my
tent I was met by the rear end of a Jeep careering towards me... the jeep
then stopped and hammered back as fast as possible at the grassy mound
infront... suddenly all was clear... with total disregard for anyone else
the Jeep driver was trying to get his vehicle on top of the bank... a couple
more attempts and he made it... though on each attempt he was oblivious to
the presence on anyone else (though his passenger had managed to get out)...
and on each attempt he rolled back further to get a better run up... the
last run up his Jeep knocked down the fence at the edge of our display...
another 4 feet and he would have been inside a tent... Somehow he got onto
the top of the bank... and somehow he got off the other side without rolling
the vehicle, without hitting the fence or any of the vehicles parked there.
Once the jeep stopped on the other side we were able to get to it and safely
switch off his engine... "politely" ask him to get out of the Jeep and walk
back to his tent... it was then clear that he was too drunk to stand up...
his passenger intervened and took both Jeep and Driver onwards to the
camp... he too probably well over the legal limit.
I believe the individual concerned received some form of reprimand from the
IMPS organisation team.
Personally this could have had tragic consequences for a whole load of
people... fortunately it didnt...
My BIG question here is... WHY are people allowed to drive around the site
after dark, unless there is some sort of real emergency ?
There should be some sort of system in place that vehicles on site are not
allowed to move around without an escort... or perhaps as is common place on
French Campsites, vehicles arriving after a certain time are forced to stay
in a holding compound until the next day. For those already on site...
breath-testing anyone driving around ought to make people think twice... ?
But unless something is done... then Yes... and accident waiting to
happen...
Regards
Tim
