Don,
I have done my share of research at the National Archives in College Park, I would suggest a detailed letter to the Military History Unit and they can advise you to which record groups they have that might be applicable to your search. You should also look at the NARA (National Archives and Records Administraton) website at www.nara.gov and look at the guide to Federal Records. This will also help in getting a general idea of where to start your search.

One thing I have to ask is why you are searching in the National Archives for records on a vehicle that was owned by the National Guard. I would suggest starting with your state archives first and working from there. Main things to look for are maintenance officer correspondence and or motor pool reports. They would most likely report on what you are looking for, ie " this week we recieved 1 of new model truck, etc, etc"

The ideal situation would be to find a letter or report referring to a specific program about your truck and working from there.

Perhaps someone on the list might know this but where the National Guard units required to file monthly/quarterly strength/ activity reports similar to the Vietnam era Organizational Reports Lessons Learned (ORLL's)?

I am located in New Jersey and go to DC occasionally for research at Archives II in College Park so if you need me to poke around let me know.

Rick
