Hi Jim
The BATF demil regs are constantly changing both in general and for
specific vehicles. Latest practise is that when you apply for an import
permit, you have to submit a drawing or photographs of any weapons. ATF
will issue with a licence for that specific vehicle with demil instructions
pertaining to it and to the weapons that you have specified, and marking the
required demil on the diagrams you supplied with your application.
The norm for Ferret/Saracen multi-barrel type smoke dischargers is now
not only to remove the firing pins and drill out the threads that retain
them in the base but also to cut a quarter inch slot the full length of each
and every smoke discharger barrel. This is a time consuming business and
results in an unsightly mutilated item. But that's what I believe to be the
current law. Others will have no doubt come across different
interpretations.
