Having inventoried and attempted to use a Platoon Early Warning Device many
times over the years, I'm amazed that a "surplus" PEWS was of any
assistance to anyone. Heck, new out of the box they were difficult to
use,and had limited results. These things didn't work worth a darn when
they were new and had lots of spare parts.
Anyone who was serious about early warning would contract with a local
burglar alarm company for outside microwave detectors, beams, etc., not
depend on a PEWS.
I'm not saying they didn't get away because their PEWS worked, but perhaps
I'd look for a different reason.
