No real differences. Early models have the 2 handbrake levers closer to the middle
of the front panel as the late ones which are at the outer corners.
Parking brake shoe set up is different but not to important. On the early M101's
you needed to have a power cable with 2 male ends. This was changed to having the
cable wired directly to the trailer harness after to many cables went missing.
Remember the little box on the M100 trailers? This was for that cable. No box was provided
for the M101 3/4 ton trailer.
I have a late model '53 M101CDN.
The manual for the trailer is: TM9-2330-202-14&P
This covers all models M101, M101A1, and M101A2 ( Surge brake model ).

Now let's get really confusing. The add on page 45 of Mil. Veh. Mag. for Willys Acres, shows what
appears to be a M416 trailer. Canada never used the M416 series of trailers. We just kept our
M100's alot longer and even towed them behind our M151A2's. We had an adapter plate to use the
151's spare tire if needed.
When Canada got rid of our M38A1's, M151A2's , we bought the 1/4 ton truck called the "Iltis ",
which was built under license by Bombardier. We still had the M100 trailers now with adapter plates
to use the Iltis spare tire. Now you know how governments work, about half way through the life of
the Iltis someone in Ottawa decides to have a 1/4 ton trailer built for the Iltis. It looks just like a U.S
M416 trailer with a few differences that are listed in the for sale add.
So now we have a "new" 1/4 ton trailer. What do we call it ? Well, says some government official,
we had the M100, let's call the new one the M101CDN. Someone forgot to tell them that we already
had a M101 trailer in the system. The add in the mag. is correct. It is a M101CDN. 1/4 ton trailer.

FWIW: If it looks like an M16, shoots like an M16, uses the same ammo as an M16, is it a M16 ?
Not in Canada. It's called a " C7" assault rifle. You see how our government likes to screw
             things up.
Sorry for being so long winded.
