Cucv GEN 1 light

The GEN 1 light is not coming on when I crank my M1009 CUCV. I have swapped
the bulb and holder. I checked the the battery with a Handheld voltmeter:
12v off, 14v running. The truck cranks normally, but the truck voltmeter
stays at the edge of the green for a short time, then goes to its normal
position. It seems like I remember Mighty Joe Young having this problem.
Any insight?
