With regard to the .50cal dimensions, thanks for the details.
The purpose is that i wish to build a replica for my CCKW.
Apparently I am not supposed to, but my kids have been hounding me,
and I relented. I figure what could be more harmless than a kids project.
I have 3 sons and they help me a bit with my resto's..they want a gun on
it!
They get a little bored with sanding, dismantling etc, and as the oldest
is only 10 thats fair enough. I get them involved tho cause I get to spend
time with them, and they learn to use tools, appreciate machinery etc
(not to mention out of ma's hair),anyway they nagged me a bit.
I have noticed boys seem to like weapons a lot 'naturally'
Cause i have boys, lots come to play...the place is littered with
every toy weapon you could think of ( I own no firearms, due to
ridiculously prohibitive laws in Australia) the boys are always right into
it.
I have many nieces..they and there friends really arent very interested
in weaponry..I am talking ages 2-10.
Even kids whose parents wont let them buy toy guns, seem to slip right into
the mold..funny that.
CCKW Axles..have completely dismantled the front axle to see if i could
score some spare parts..it was a really hard job..i had to belt a spanner
with a 10lb sledge to break the torque (can only do this with a good
spanner,
Aussie made Sidchrome are the best, very sought after at old tool auctions).
The ring and pinion were stuffed, as were most of the bearings.
The drums and brake cyls were good.
Are the splined OUTER ends of the axle case-hardened?
If they are mine are probabnly no good as there are a few rust pits.
Rear Axles..I have the seals that go on the outer end..ie the locknot seal.
I notice there is a larger one pictured in the manual..the inner bearing
seal, I think..it is larger I think...which one is most responsible for
stopping Gear oil from leaking from the rear outer hub?
regards tony
