PAINTING ALUMINUM?

I am about to repaint my HMMWV and had a few questions. The paint on it now is sound but fadded everywhere except for the rear cargo area. The cargo area is down to the bare metal in most places. My question is should this area be primed? and if so with what? Would it be ok to just paint the bare metal since it is aluminum? It does not appear that there ever was any type of primer. I know aircraft have a zinc chromate under coat.
