TO LIST MEMBERS AND DAVID WRIGHT:
Be advised that I inspected the vehicles for GL Sale 602 at Ft.Devens
yesterday. The GL rep Linda Amos was there, very polite, but could not
answer any questions about the vehicles there, Like were they towed in or
driven in. Simple question, huh?
But when I got there, she said the lot numbers on the internet site were
fouled up, and to go by the serial numbers on the white stickers on the
bumpers to match the trucks on the ground with the WRITTEN descriptions on
the web site. The LOT PHOTOS OF THE TRUCKS ON THE WEB SITE ARE NOT
NECESSARILY THE TRUCKS IN THE LOT DESCRIPTION. SO BUYER BEWARE!!!!
I found this out when I went first to some of the trucks I had seen
photos of and found that when I checked the serial numbers on the bumper to
the printed sheets she gave us and then went back to the web site when I got
home, they WERE NOT THE TRUCKS SHOWN IN THE PHOTO OF THAT LOT!!!!! Winch
equipped truck in the lot photo turned out to be a non winch dropside. For
example, web site lot 3411 picture is not of the described truck. Same with
web site lot 3413. Also, head on photos of trucks have a tendency to miss
things like missing driver and passenger doors, and snow glare in the photos
had a tendency to not show oil on front axles from MAJOR engine leaks (that
could not be checked out due to snow loads on hoods and ice covered
fenders). Some trucks had good batteries in them and I saw two started by
folks looking at them. One guy couldn't figure out how to shut it down once
he got it started. He'd never been in a deuce before. Lucky it wasn't in
gear and they were all frozen into ruts in the ground.
Also, you got about 90 minutes per appointment ( in at 1330, out at
1510) to look at the 90 plus vehicles, which were covered in snow and 1/2
inch of glazed ice. Opening hoods with 200 lbs of additional weight on a non
winch truck was not an option.
Only two days to view vehicles at Devens, because Linda is flat out
covering Ft. Devens, Portsmouth,NH , Groton, CT and Mechanicsburg by
herself.
There are bargains out there for sure, but that pristine looking truck
in the photo is probably a different lot number. So far, of the eleven
trucks I premarked by photos on the web site as lots I wanted to view, only
three were the same lot
FOR REAL and On the Web site.
For GL: More photos are needed of the vehicles to be useful on the web
site, but you have to get more people involved cause if the photos don't
match the vehicle described, your web site is useless.
And the US Govt isn't going to get squat back if people low bid or don't
bid cause the web site descriptions and photos don't match.
Good Luck to all.
