Hello all,
It appears as though I can post again.
I would like to thank everyone who responded to my plea for help with my stuck
GPW engine a few weeks ago.
Here is what it was.
I had a problem with friction on the crank as it was turned. The block and head
had been machined and it was a full rebuild. I did it and was worried since it
was my first.
I found the trust washer rubbing on the front main bearing. After looking
through 2 W.W.II manuals and a 50's era manual, I found no reference to a shim
between the block and trust washer. And, because of the taper on the crank,
shims would not work very well.
After disassembly I found the top half of the front main bearing stuck out a
little farther then the bottom half. I loosened the cap and moved the bearing
half in towards the block.
Problem fixed.
The engine is back in, and very quiet. Oil pressure at idle is 15-20 and temp
is about 170.
Any recommendations on a break in period and rpms?
I would like to post a picture, is this permitted?
One happy camper.
