When you pull down the current/voltage of one battery in series with
another battery, you don't get a full charge on that battery equal to
the charge you get on the other battery. It causes an imbalance that
is difficult to overcome. Eventually it drains that first battery
iirc.
While I don't have a secondary load on one of the two batteries of my
ferret, I have begun to experience a lower than usual ampacity. Such
that I was stuck in the middle of an intersection last saturday after
going on reserve. I have about 30 seconds of cranking and then the
batteries go flat. Earlier in November, I had far more ampacity.
Enough for sitting in it for several hours while I fiddled with
things and she'd start right up without any slow starting on the
starter.
Likely I'll have to replace both batteries if they both don't charge
to a satisfactory amount after I charge them. Likely I'll replace
them with Deep Cycle Marine batteries that have auxilliary posts on
them. That way I can add a pair of pigtails for charging them
individually without having to pull the side bins/airbox/other stowed
gear. The master battery disconnect switch will prevent any other
current loops during charging.
